It is always rewarding to help a patient regain their ability to hear, smell, breathe, swallow or speak. I want my patients to know that I'm invested in their health and quality of life. That's my goal along their treatment path.
Since an early age, I knew I was interested in medicine. Throughout my young life, I never stopped striving toward my goal of becoming a surgeon.
Today, as a surgeon, I’ve come to appreciate that we often don’t know what we have until it’s gone. When we lose a vital function such as the ability to hear, smell, breathe, taste, speak or swallow, it is incredibly rewarding to help a patient regain that function.
As ENT physicians treating head and neck conditions, we often face great challenges due to the intricate anatomy and essential functions of this important anatomical space. Stepping up to these challenges give us an opportunity to preserve, and even improve, essential senses such as hearing, smell, taste, and touch for our patients. And for some patients, in addition to treating disease and improving function, we can also improve a sense of identity through cosmetic or reconstructive changes.
It is hard to imagine what I’d be doing if I weren’t a physician, but it’s likely I would continue with medical illustration or design.
On a day off, you’ll find me outdoors with my wife and my twin boys. Fishing, mountain biking, motocross, skiing, or hunting is a welcomed bonus.
